Meet Your New Board
Thank you for your participation in voting for your new PMI Mid Nebraska Board. And, a special thanks to Sandra Zwiener who has served PMI Mid Nebraska as our president for 6 years! Sandra will remain on the board as Past President, ex officio.
Newly elected officers include:
Steve Merrill, President
Steve has the title of Project Manager for the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) in Columbus, NE. What he does is take an idea, sets the budget, schedule, and scope, and sees it through to completion. He’s been doing this for a number of years. Steve has a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, a Master’s of Arts in Education from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Wayne State College. Steve earned his Project Management Professional designation in June 2007.
Brenda Bland, VP Programs
Brenda Bland works for Ascension Information Services (AIS). She is the Program Manager for the Virtual Care Program. Ascension is the largest the largest non-profit health system in the U.S. and the world’s largest Catholic health system. AIS is a subsidiary of Ascension. The three initiatives that Brenda is managing are Telemedicine, Direct to Consumer and Remote Monitoring. She started with AIS December 2016.
Prior to working at Ascension, Brenda was the Director Customer Relations and IT Strategic Planning at Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), a position she held for five years. At CHI, she directed the IT Strategic Planning and created the Customer Experience Program. Brenda also developed and implemented the ITIL Demand Management process and tool.
Earlier in her career, Brenda gained extensive experience in application development, integration and portfolio/program and project management. She is certified project management professional (PMP since 2009) from Project Management Institute (PMI) and a certified professional healthcare information management systems (CPHIMS) from Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Brenda has extensive experience leading virtual teams and projects.
Brenda holds a bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University in Management of Information Systems.
Brenda is a member of several professional organizations, including the Project Management Institute (PMI) including the Mid-Nebraska Chapter and Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) including the Nebraska Chapter. Brenda leads the Hunger and Poverty Response Committee for her church, is the Chair of Lincoln’s Interfaith Peacemaking Coalition, serves as a volunteer for Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach, and is a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW).

Andrew Storz, VP-Technology
Andy Storz owns a financial services and consulting company based in Lincoln. Before starting his own company, he had several years of experience in project management with mergers and acquisitions for a private equity holding company as well as finance specific and enterprise software implementations. Andy holds certifications in Six Sigma and Scrum and is also pursuing an MBA. He and his wife, Darlyn, have five children.
Sandra Zweiner will remain on the board as Past President, and current board members, Dawn Hopwood (VP Membership), Atwell Mukusha (VP Finance) and Steve Slaight (VP Communications) will remain on the board for at least one more year.
Professional Development Day, 2017
Plan now to attend Professional Development Day, November 9, 2017. The theme: The Strategic Project Manager. Our presenter for the day is Dan Moeller.
Dan presented at one of our most popular chapter meetings in March, and will be breaking up the day into four separate, yet connected sessions.

Call for Volunteers
Calling all volunteers! Do you want to have some AMAZING SWAG for our PDD? How about get some great sponsorships that can offset some cost and great presenters?
I need your help - if anyone has the gift of persuasion, has some great contacts or inside connections - we need you!!
We need a committee of about 5-7 people who are willing to beat the streets, companies, etc to get some SWAG and/or sponsorships for our PDD. I would like to have a meeting by the end of August to work out a plan and get things rollin'.
